The Lonely Hiker For a Day

I just got back from training. It was drizzling when I got off the bus. As usual I took same route back home. Along the way there's this small road that leads to Thompson Rd. I've always wanted to walk there but never found the time or energy to do it. Somehow today I felt different, I felt like doing something. So instead of turning right towards home i turned left walking on that one-way road.

I stopped by a petrol pumping station. Bought some bread and drinks, I thought of having a little quiet time for myself later in MacRitchie Reservoir. Also I had to take a leak.

pissssss...

It seems like they are doing some construction works in the area. Looks like they are giving the place a new look.

I walked around the area for a while thinking of where to go next. There was this signpost nearby with all this directions pointing towards some places of interest. Next stop, HSBC TreeTop Walk.

HSBC TreeTop Walk...5km?!?

Okay to cut a long story short. I went to a trail which lead into a dark forest. I was feeling a little uneasy so I walked together with an old man which later i ditched because he was too slow. I saw a couple of animals - squirrels, fishes, monitor lizard, small lizards and monkeys. Later on I had to hike on an muddy trail as it was the end of the wooden boardwalk. By this time my hand phone battery power was low and I can't use the camera. During the hike I was all alone and sometimes it does get creepy in the dark forest.

it looks friendly now but wait till you get deeper inside...

2 hours later I reached the ranger station. I had some rest there before i continued on a steep uphill road to reach the HSBC TreeTop Walk. I have a fear of height and so my legs turned to jelly when i was on the bridge. But i manage to calm down and enjoy the view from up there.

It was downhill most of the way from there. Again I was all alone on the flight of wooden steps. I looked at the time and it's nearly been four hours of non-stop walking and hiking. It was time to go home, along the way I met this old man. From the way he talked i knew he was from the upper-class wealthy guy or something. But he seems nice and since he was going the same way as I am he offered to walk with me. We talked and along the way he asked if i wanted Durians. There were Durian trees along the road and we checked the ground to see if there was any.

On the way out he met some of his friends, I thanked him and left to look for the way out on my own. Finally I reached the car park, went to the main road and hailed a taxi to go back home.
